FAQs / Help

CAVE LAYOUT & FLOORING
  • There are two low-roof passages on the cave trail. Here you will need to be able to bend low at the waist while you walk. Hard hats are provided and must be worn. For small children we recommend that a woolly hat (no bobble) or cap be worn under the hard hat for a snug fit.
  • There are 97 steps on the tour. Most of these are in the access tunnel to the Battlefield Cavern.
  • Much of the trail is metal grid flooring, so mobility aids such as walking sticks are not suitable for the tour. High-heeled shoes should not be worn.
  • Because of the natural shape of the cave passages pushchair, buggy, wheelchair and guide dog access to the cave are not possible, and infants must not be carried in backpacks. There are disabled parking spaces, a gently sloping access ramp from the car park to the visitor centre, and a toilet for wheelchair users.
CAVE TEMPERATURE

The cave temperature is a cool 8° Centigrade throughout the year, so we recommend that you wear a pullover or jacket.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

Information about water levels in the cave will be posted on this website when necessary. We recommend that you check before you travel.

YOUR FITNESS

Most people are able to enjoy the cave tour without difficulty, but please note:

  • Tour duration is about 80 minutes. Distance covered underground is about one mile.
  • The tour is not considered suitable for people with cardiac conditions.
  • Please contact the cave if you have any doubt about your ability to do the tour.
PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography is allowed, except in the Battlefield Cavern (for reasons of safety and conservation). Video equipment is not permitted. The colour booklet, available at the ticket office and in the shop, is illustrated with professional photographs of the cave.

DOGS

Dogs are not permitted inside the cave, for reasons of safety and animal welfare. Dogs may however be brought to the cave site as long as they are controlled.
